Central Queensland businesses to reap up to $4 million with early work for the military training area expansion

Central Queensland businesses are already benefiting from the economic opportunities being generated by the expansion of the Shoalwater Bay Training Area under the Australia-Singapore Military Training Initiative, Assistant Minister for Defence, Senator the Hon David Fawcett, said today.

Minister Fawcett today met with the Managing Contractor, Laing O’Rourke, and locally engaged engineering and design businesses delivering key aspects of the Shoalwater Bay Training Area expansion.

So far, 16 companies from Rockhampton, Yeppoon, Gladstone and the surrounding region have been participating in the project in partnership with the head contractors. This work is anticipated to bring approximately AUD 4 million into the local economy.
