DEC Outreach

Important Note: DEC is realigning its outreach program to maximise partner engagement and be more agile and responsive to client needs. We are working to deliver a more coordinated, accessible and customer-oriented outreach program that provides our partners with a ‘one-stop' web-based service for obtaining information, technical assistance and better access to resources, education and training materials. DEC is therefore reviewing and updating its training material to deliver this enhanced approach to Outreach and will publish new online training tools and technical resources in the near future.

Following the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 1540 in 2004, member states were required to criminalise the proliferation of WMD , enact strict export controls and secure sensitive materials. In line with this, DEC established an Outreach section, tasked with raising awareness of Australia's export controls system. DEC Outreach seeks to:

  • Develop and foster dialogue between DEC and exporters;
  • Work with exporters to assist them to meet their obligations as exporters of regulated and controlled goods, technologies and services;
  • Raise awareness of the methods employed by some states and terrorist groups to obtain controlled goods; and
  • encourage exporters to report suspicious incidents and approaches they receive from overseas and within Australia.

Our Outreach team is available to assist exporters in understanding their obligations and the export controls process.

Please contact us if you or your organisation requires assistance and training.
