On Saturday 21 March 2015, Australia marked the conclusion of Operation SLIPPER with commemorative activities conducted across each State and Territory capital city and Townsville.
Australia’s military contribution to the ISAF and the ICAT missions across Afghanistan and the Middle East commenced in October 2001.
Australia deployed over 33,000 Australian Defence Force personnel, Australian Public Service employees and Australian Federal Police to the Middle East Area of Operations.

To mark the national commemorative activities, the Chief of the Defence Force, Air Chief Marshal Mark Binskin, has endorsed the creation of a range of Operation SLIPPER commemorative products. The Operation SLIPPER range will be of interest to people with a link to the operation through service, support roles or family, although great interest is also expected from the wider community.
Funds generated through the sale of the commemorative products will be donated to charities dedicated to the welfare and wellbeing of service men and women, Soldier On, Legacy, Keeping Watch, Royal Australian Air Force Welfare Trust Fund and the Army Relief Trust Fund.
Defence-linked industries – big and small – have thrown their support behind the commemorative products and have funded the presentation of an Op SLIPPER gold lapel pin for all who served in the area of operations. Thales Australia, Nova Systems, SAAB Technologies and Military Shop have donated the full cost of the special pin to be presented to all who served, either at the marches, through work channels or online.
