Barry Laming - East Timor offers new challenges for Heidelburg soldierHeidelburg soldier Barry Laming wanted to gain experience that university didn’t provide, so after studying international relations at university, he joined the Australian Army.
“I wanted to get unique experiences that no other job can provide,” Barry said. Barry has certainly obtained that experience and is currently serving on a second deployment to East Timor.
Barry has been in the Army for three years and loves his job and is currently serving on his second deployment to East Timor .
“As infantry soldiers, we specialise in many different weapons and equipment” Barry said and he enjoys the diverse challenges his role in the Army offers.
Barry is one of some 650 Australian Defence Force personnel now serving in East Timor with Operation Astute
The East Timor Battle Group Six is part of the International Stabilisation Force (ISF) in Dili, and conducts security related patrols and liaison with the local community throughout East Timor.
The International Stabilisation Force (ISF) is assisting the Government of East Timor and UN to maintain stability and security in the country.
