Bruce Williams - Homecoming for Bruce

When the Australian Guided Missile Frigate HMAS Newcastle berthed at Brisbane last Friday, Chief Petty Officer Bruce Williams got the chance to catch up with his wonderful wife from his home town of Buderim.

Bruce joined the Navy in 1984 as a communications and information systems specialist.

After twenty years in the Navy and a career spanning across no fewer than seven classes of ships, Bruce says that “sometimes we need to distance ourselves in order to really appreciate what we have.

“I have left the Navy on two previous occasions and, since rejoining in 2004, I have never looked back, helped by the support of my gorgeous wife.

“I am looking forward to spending lots of quality time with her, having been separated for the last few weeks while I was at sea.”

When asked what he enjoyed most about the Navy, Bruce was quick to reply with “the camaraderie, the way of life, the travel, the excitement and lifetime friends.”

HMAS Newcastle visited Brisbane from Friday 16 until Monday 19 October in support of Brisbane Navy Week.
