Warren Bechly - Homecoming for Warren

When the Navy’s Guided Missile Frigate HMAS Newcastle berthed at Maritime Wharf number two on Friday, Wavell man Lieutenant Warren Bechly got the chance to relax and catch up with his family and friends.

Warren attended the Wavell State High School before joining the navy as a Combat Systems Sailor in 1998. The he got the chance to ‘go for officer’ and changed over to become a Principal Warfare Officer in 2001. Aboard HMAS Newcastle he is now responsible for the planning, coordination of all operations and warfare exercises for the ship.

After eleven years in the Navy, when asked what he enjoyed most about the job, Warren was quick to reply with “working with a great group of people, not to mention the travel!”

HMAS Newcastle visited Brisbane from Friday 16 until Monday 19 October in support of Brisbane Navy Week.
