Tadashi (Tad) Waters - Homecoming for sailor TadWhile the Navy’s Guided Missile Frigate HMAS Newcastle visited Brisbane as part of Navy Week, Robina’s Able Seaman Tadashi (Tad) Waters got the chance for some surfing back home as well as some of his Mum’s home cooking.
Tad was also home for his sister’s birthday.
Tad attended Robina State High school and joined the Navy as a gunnery sailor and ship’s diver.
His two years in the Navy have included stints onboard HMAS Darwin and HMAS Melbourne, before his current posting to Newcastle.
Tad has his sights set on becoming a warfare officer and eventually a mine-warfare clearance diver.
When asked what he enjoyed most about the Navy, Tad was quick to reply, “the teamwork, and working with ships of other navies.”
HMAS Newcastle visited Brisbane from Friday 16 until Monday 19 October 09. The ship berthed at Maritime Wharf number two and was open to the public on Saturday 17 October in support of Brisbane Navy Week.
