Kevin Morgan - Illawarra sailor looking forward to finding seas legs after desert duty

FOR Able Seaman Kevin Morgan, who grew up in Wollongong, his six month deployment to the Middle East Area of Operations with the Force Support Unit rotation one (FSU 1) is over.

The 42 year old supplier was with FSU 1, packaging and forwarding vital equipment, stores and weapons to Australian troops deployed in Afghanistan.

"I liked working here, helping all the other guys out in the Middle East, supplying them with what they needed," Kevin said.

"It was a rewarding job knowing I was helping my country and people in other places too.”

"I joined the Navy three years ago to do something different, meet new people and to travel," Kevin said.

"Previously I was a fitness instructor and I built swimming pools," he said.

This was not his only overseas deployment with the Navy; he's also served on HMAS Success and travelled to other countries.

"I've been to Hong Kong, Vietnam and Singapore which was soon after I joined the Navy. Last year I went to Hawaii for the RIMPAC exercise," he said.

He said he can't wait to get home from the Middle East.

"I'm going partying, some of my friends have organised one for me in Sydney when I get back and then my parents, Neil and Joan will also have one for me in Wollongong a week after I get back," Kevin said.

"I'm planning to spend my five weeks leave travelling to Cairns then maybe to Brazil, New Zealand or Mexico."

He also plans to catch up with two other important people in his life.

"I'm going to visit my twin 12 year-old boys Jordan and Lachlan, who are really into soccer and football," he said.

On his deployment to the Middle East, he said he believes FSU 1 achieved a lot in its six months.

"We moved a lot of cargo and it was good feeling to know that we could supply the soldiers in Afghanistan with what they needed, even though I couldn't be out there with them."
