Black Hawk helicopter prepares for an under-slung load

In October 2005 a devastating earthquake sent a shock wave through South Asia. On 11 November 2005, the Australian Defence Force (ADF) deployed a contingent of medical specialists to provide medical assistance to the people of the Dhanni region.

During their deployment ADF personnel have successfully treated 9540 patients and put in place an immunisation program for the children of the Dhanni region which will have benefits well into the coming years.

On 8 March 2006, the Australian Medical contingent departed and returned to Australia after completing a successful primary health mission.

The Black Hawk Helicopters and supporting elements will remain to continue with humanitarian aid.

The Australian aviation and headquarter elements will depart on 8 April 2006.
