Helping hands in Lilydale

Defence has acted quickly to set up emergency accommodation for residents who have evacuated from Warburton to Lilydale due to the increased fire threat in their hometown.

Trucks from 2 Force Support Battalion 44 Transport Squadron arrived on Monday afternoon, with soldiers from the 5th/6th Battalion, the Royal Victoria Regiment erecting 16 tents at the Lilydale Football Ground.

The Lilydale Hec Sebire Rover crew (senior scouts) provided a helping hand as the tents were fitted out with stretchers, sleeping bags, pillows, and fresh water supplies.

The Australian Defence Force stands ready to provide further support should the fire situation deteriorate over the coming days.
