Medical Services

As part of the National ADF Family Health Program, registered dependants will be able to claim reimbursement for their gap expenses relating to all services provided in a general practice setting that have a Medicare Benefit Schedule (MBS) Item Number. Eligible dependants may access medical services from the general practice of their choice anywhere in Australia.

Gap expenses are the difference between the GP's fee and the Medicare Rebate.

Services provided in a hospital and medical appliances are not eligible for reimbursement covered.

Allied Health and Specialist Services

The National ADF Family Health Program provides $400 for each registered dependant per Financial Year to use towards GST free non-cosmetic allied health services and / or used to off-set the gap expenses for specialist consultations. This amount is a family allocation which can be transferred between family members (for example; a family of 3 dependants will be allocated $1,200 per Financial Year).

Services may be accessed from service providers of your choice, anywhere within Australia.

Any benefits claimed for allied health services, regardless of where they are provided from will be deducted from the allied health component (i.e. $400 limit).

The following vocational groups are eligible for claims reimbursement:




All items listed by the Australian Dental Association (ADA).


All prescription eyewear, lenses, frames, contact lenses and repairs.


Consultations by a certified physiotherapist, ante/post natal classes provided by a registered physiotherapist or midwife.

Chiropractic / Osteopathy

Consultations by a certified provider.


Consultations by a registered psychologist.


Consultations by a certified provider.

Speech Therapy

Consultations by a certified provider.


Consultations by a certified provider.

Podiatry / Chiropody

Consultations by a certified provider.

Occupational Therapy Consultations by a certified provider.
Medically Prescribed Appliances Costs for purchase of Medically Prescribed Appliances where there is no GST applied. Claims must include a copy of the written recomendation / prescription from registered practitioner.

Eligible Specialist services and procedures are defined as services with an applicable Medicare Benefit Schedule (MBS) Item Number provided by a Specialist or Consultant Physician as recognised by the Health Insurance Act 1973.

Services and procedures can be provided from within the Specialists consulting rooms or from within a hospital setting provided there is an eligible MBS Item Number.

Dependants are required to claim the Medicare Rebate prior to submitting a claim for gap expense reimbursement.

Please Note: Diagnostic and investagative services (radiology, pathology etc) are excluded.
