ADF Recruitment

The Australian Defence Force (ADF) offers many different opportunities for Indigenous Australians that are interested in joining the Navy, Army or Air Force.

If you are interested in a career in the ADF, Defence Force Recruiting (DFR) can provide information about jobs and opportunities and assist you in identifying the right career for you.

Indigenous Support

Defence acknowledges that undertaking full time employment can be difficult, particularly when you are isolated from family and your community. The ADF provides a number of support services including career development pathways and opportunities and supportive conditions that recognise cultural requirements.

We also have specialist teams available who will mentor and support you throughout the recruiting process.

And if you need a little more assistance in furthering your skills for a career in the ADF, Defence offers a number of programs to assist including the Indigenous Pre-Recruit Program and the Defence Indigenous Development Program.

Indigenous Pre-Recruit Program

Are you looking for a challenge? Would you like to learn new skills and meet people from all over the country? Are you interested in a career in the ADF? Then you might be interested in the Indigenous Pre-Recruit Program (IPRP).

The IPRP is a six week residential course for young Indigenous adults focusing on four key areas:

  1. Physical Fitness;
  2. Character development; and
  3. Cultural appreciation.

By the end of the course you will have the skills, knowledge and confidence to continue on to a successful full-time career in the ADF.

For further information or to apply to enlist within the ADF you should contact Defence Force Recruiting on 131901 or make an enquiry through the Defence Force Recruiting ‘Contact Us’ enquiry form.

Navy Indigenous Development Program and Army Indigenous Development Program

The Navy Indigenous Development Program (NIDP) and Army Indigenous Development Program (AIDP) are for young Indigenous adults that want to join the ADF but who may be challenged by reading and writing or fitness.

The NIDP / AIDP are five and a half month residential courses that focus on six key areas:

  1. Language, Literacy, and Numeracy training;
  2. Military skills;
  3. Physical fitness;
  4. Vocational Education and Training;
  5. Cultural appreciation; and
  6. Leadership and character development.

By the end of the course you will have the skills, knowledge and attitude to continue on with a full-time career in the ADF. What's more, we'll pay you for everyday you're on the course.

If you decide that a full-time career in the ADF is not for you, then opportunities in the Australian Defence Force Reserves or other choices may be open to you.

If you are interested in an ADF career and wish to be considered for the NIDP / AIDP you should contact Defence Force Recruiting and commence an application to enlist with the Australian Defence Force.

Alternately you can ring 131901 to discuss your opportunities with one of the Defence Force Recruiting staff or submit an enquiry through the Defence Force Recruiting 'Contact Us' page
